Lore

Field Repair kits contain nano-fabrication gel, structural adhesive, and a micro-welder. When applied to damaged chassis, the gel flows into cracks and hardens into load-bearing material within seconds. Not elegant, but effective — and in the field, effective is all that matters.

Extended Lore

Field Repair technology represents one of the few genuine cross-faction innovations in modern warfare. The core component — nano-fabrication gel — was originally developed by Terran bioengineers, but the delivery system was refined using Vrynn bio-adhesive research, and the rapid-hardening catalyst was reverse-engineered from Caxion energy-crystallization processes. The result is a repair solution that works on virtually any material, from organic tissue to duranium alloy.

A standard Field Repair kit contains three components: a canister of nano-fabrication gel, a tube of structural adhesive, and a palm-sized micro-welder. The gel is the critical element — a dense silver liquid containing billions of programmable nanomachines that, when exposed to damaged material, analyze the break pattern and replicate the original structure. The nanomachines draw raw material from the gel itself, which is why a single canister can only repair a limited amount of damage before being exhausted.

The repair process is fast but not painless. The nanomachines generate significant heat as they work, and the structural adhesive bonds to nerve endings as readily as to hull plating. Soldiers who have been field-repaired describe the sensation as "having your wounds filled with hot sand that turns to stone." The cosmetic results are equally rough — field repairs leave visible seam lines and discoloration that mark a veteran as surely as any medal.

Despite its crudeness, Field Repair has saved more lives and extended more operational lifespans than any other single technology in the military inventory. Medical officers carry it. Engineers carry it. Infantry carry it. Even pilots strap a kit to their ejection seats. The unofficial rule of frontier service is simple: you can leave behind your weapon, your rations, or your dignity, but never your repair kit.
