Lore
Cascade Failsafe is an emergency hardening protocol that simultaneously reinforces every Terran unit in the formation. When triggered, the relay network redistributes all available surplus energy into defensive systems, granting structural reinforcement and active network integration to every connected unit.
Extended Lore
Cascade Failsafe was designed as a last-resort protocol for commanders facing overwhelming force — a single command that transforms the entire Terran formation from individual units into a hardened, interconnected defensive network. The protocol was initially classified as "emergency use only" due to its enormous energy cost, but field commanders quickly recognized its value as a proactive defensive measure and lobbied successfully for its reclassification as a standard tactical protocol.
The protocol works by triggering a network-wide emergency power redistribution. When activated, every relay node in range diverts its surplus processing and transmission capacity into defensive signal generation, broadcasting structural reinforcement data to every Terran unit simultaneously. The defensive data includes optimized shield frequencies, armor hardening parameters, and coordinated damage-distribution algorithms that allow units to share incoming damage loads across the formation.
The Reinforce grant is the protocol's most strategically significant effect. Units that were previously operating independently — cut off from the relay network by jamming, distance, or equipment failure — are brought back into the network fold, receiving the full complement of Reinforce benefits including shared damage distribution, coordinated defense protocols, and real-time threat intelligence. In formations where some units have lost network connectivity, Cascade Failsafe can dramatically improve overall survivability by restoring the defensive coherence that makes Terran forces so difficult to overwhelm.
The protocol\'s weakness against Surge effects reflects the electromagnetic interference that Caxion energy signatures create in the relay network during the delicate process of network-wide power redistribution. The redistribution requires precise timing across hundreds of simultaneous transmissions, and the unpredictable energy fluctuations of nearby Surge entities can desynchronize the cascade, reducing or eliminating its effectiveness.
