Lore

Frontier Guards are the backbone of deep-space outpost security. Neither fast nor clever, they compensate with sheer reliability. Their standardized chassis accepts parts from any manufacturer, making them the most maintainable unit in the fleet.

Extended Lore

The Frontier Guard chassis — officially designated the FG-7 Standard Sentry Platform — has been in continuous production for over sixty years without a major redesign. This is not because the design is perfect. It is because the design is adequate, and in the economics of frontier defense, adequacy at scale beats excellence in limited numbers every time.

The FG-7's greatest engineering achievement is its universal parts compatibility. Every joint, actuator, sensor housing, and power coupling conforms to the Interstellar Standard Mechanical Interface specification, meaning that a Guard stationed at a remote mining outpost can be repaired using parts cannibalized from cargo loaders, atmospheric processors, or even civilian construction equipment. A skilled technician with a portable welder can keep a Frontier Guard operational indefinitely using nothing but local scrap.

Frontier Guards are deployed in pairs at minimum, following overlapping patrol routes calculated to eliminate blind spots. Their tactical software is deliberately conservative — they are programmed to hold position and report contacts rather than pursue, ensuring that they never abandon their post chasing a decoy. This predictability makes them easy to outmaneuver individually, but their value lies in coverage, not combat prowess.

Most Frontier Guards serve their entire operational lifespan without firing a shot. The ones stationed along the Caxion border are the notable exception — those units cycle through replacement parts at three times the standard rate and carry battle scarring that their technicians have long since stopped polishing out.
