Lore

The Aegis Projector is a portable shield generator that creates overlapping defensive fields around nearby Terran units. Unlike personal shields that protect a single target, the Aegis broadcasts a wide-area barrier that reduces incoming damage to every ally within its projection radius — the ultimate expression of the Terran philosophy that the network protects everyone.

Extended Lore

The Aegis Projector was developed in response to the catastrophic losses suffered at the Battle of Node Seventeen, where concentrated Caxion fire annihilated an entire Terran defensive line in under ninety seconds. Post-battle analysis revealed that individual shield systems had performed within specifications — the problem was that each unit\'s shield operated independently, creating gaps between coverage zones that the Caxion exploited with surgical precision.

The Aegis Projector eliminates these gaps by creating a unified defensive field rather than individual shields. The device projects a dome of interlocking hexagonal barrier segments that covers a radius of approximately twenty meters from the projector. Each segment operates on a different frequency — a design borrowed from the Shield Array\'s multi-layer approach — but unlike individual shields, the segments are managed by a central AI that continuously adjusts coverage patterns in response to incoming fire direction and intensity.

The damage reduction effect is consistent and reliable: every Terran unit within the Aegis dome receives a baseline reduction in incoming damage as the barrier absorbs a portion of each attack\'s energy before it reaches the target. The reduction is not dramatic — approximately one unit of damage per attack — but across an entire formation taking sustained fire, the aggregate protection is substantial. Field commanders report that units operating within an Aegis dome survive 40 percent longer in contested engagements compared to units with individual shields.

The Projector\'s high durability reflects the robust engineering required for sustained field deployment. The device is designed to operate continuously for the duration of a battle without requiring maintenance, power cell replacement, or recalibration. Its durability rating represents the number of full-power impacts the projector can absorb before structural failure compromises the barrier generation system.
