Lore
Bulkhead Troopers are the Terran frontline — heavily armoured soldiers whose powered exoskeletons can absorb punishment that would shred lighter units. Their reactive plating is wired into the Terran network, and each time a commander issues a protocol command, the Trooper's systems recalibrate, hardening against the current threat profile. Where Bulkheads stand, the line holds.
Extended Lore
Bulkhead Troopers are the physical embodiment of the Terran defensive doctrine: hold the line at any cost, and let the network handle the rest. Their powered exoskeletons — the BT-4 Heavy Combat Frame — weigh over 130 kilograms and provide full-body protection against kinetic, energy, and explosive threats. Inside the frame, the Trooper moves with surprising fluidity, the exoskeleton's servomotors amplifying their strength to compensate for the armor's mass.
The BT-4's most distinctive feature is its network-responsive reactive plating. Unlike standard reactive armor, which responds passively to physical impacts, the Bulkhead's plating is connected to the Terran relay network and actively adjusts its defensive configuration in response to command protocols. When a commander broadcasts a protocol — any protocol — the Trooper's armor receives the transmission and recalibrates its energy distribution, hardening the plating by redirecting surplus network power into the structural reinforcement circuits.
This means that Bulkhead Troopers become progressively more durable as the battle intensifies. Each protocol broadcast — whether offensive, defensive, or logistical — sends a pulse of energy through the network that the Trooper's armor absorbs and converts into structural integrity. In prolonged engagements where the commander is actively managing the network, a Bulkhead Trooper can become nearly impervious to conventional weapons.
Bulkhead Troopers serve a specific tactical role: they are the anchor of the Terran formation, holding key positions while lighter units maneuver around them. Their training emphasizes discipline over aggression — a Bulkhead who abandons their position to pursue a retreating enemy is a Bulkhead who has failed their purpose. The Trooper Corps motto, "Behind me," is both an instruction to the units they protect and a statement of their identity. The Bulkhead is always between the enemy and the network. Always.
